The United States currently relies heavily on coal, oil, and natural gas for its energy. Fossil fuels are non-renewable, that is, they draw on finite resources that will eventually dwindle, becoming too expensive or too environmentally damaging to retrieve. In contrast, the many types of renewable energy resources-such as wind and solar energy-are constantly replenished and will never run out.
Most renewable energy comes either directly or indirectly from the sun. Sunlight, or solar energy, can be used directly for heating and lighting homes and other buildings, for generating electricity, and for hot water heating, solar cooling, and a variety of commercial and industrial uses.
The sun's heat also drives the winds, whose energy, is captured with wind turbines. Then, the winds and the sun's heat cause water to evaporate. When this water vapor turns into rain or snow and flows downhill into rivers or streams, its energy can be captured using hydroelectric power.
Along with the rain and snow, sunlight causes plants to grow. The organic matter that makes up those plants is known as biomass. Biomass can be used to produce electricity, transportation fuels, or chemicals. The use of biomass for any of these purposes is called bioenergy.
Hydrogen also can be found in many organic compounds, as well as water. It's the most abundant element on the Earth. But it doesn't occur naturally as a gas. It's always combined with other elements, such as with oxygen to make water. Once separated from another element, hydrogen can be burned as a fuel or converted into electricity.
Not all renewable energy resources come from the sun. Geothermal energy taps the Earth's internal heat for a variety of uses, including electric power production, and the heating and cooling of buildings. And the energy of the ocean's tides come from the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun upon the Earth.
In fact, ocean energy comes from a number of sources. In addition to tidal energy, there's the energy of the ocean's waves, which are driven by both the tides and the winds. The sun also warms the surface of the ocean more than the ocean depths, creating a temperature difference that can be used as an energy source. All these forms of ocean energy can be used to produce electricity.
I'm agree whit this text but we need fossil fuels because the renewable energy isn't enough. In one hand the thermal energy produce much more energy than the eolian energy, on the other hand in Spain we have a lot of zones for use to renowable energy but all the machines for the renowable energy are too expensive. However the fossil fuels contaminate a lot, in fact the rain decrese so it is bad for the plants and for us, too. I think that in this point we have a big proble in all the world, be cause in a big part of the world we only think in now and not in the future.
ResponderEliminarI'm disagree with Juan Pablo because I think soon we're going to have the capacity to produce enough energy only with the renovable energies. And the fossil fuels aren't going to stay here forever. The part of thinking in the future is ok, but we need to think in us too. The contamination obiously is a very big problem so we have to spend time and money creating new forms to use renovable energy like better windmills and solar plates. Unfortunately the goberns only think in obtain money for they and not in have a good and clean planet.
EliminarMany people think that in the future it will be possible to use only renewable energy.
EliminarThe text is about renewable and non-renewable energies. I think that what the text is trying to explain us is that renewable energies are natural, don´t contaminate, there are more and we can use them for many things like for electric power production, for hot water heating, etc. And non-renewable energies contaminate so much the enviroment, they are only going to exist for a period of time an they are very expensive. So I think that renewable energies are going to be the future.

ResponderEliminari´m desagree with Juan Pablo because the future can change quickly. we need fossils fuels but the earth can´t resist more contamination. In a moment we will have to change to renawable energy because our planet cannot give more fossils fuels and cannot to resist anymore the contamination, too. In the one hand the fossils fuels are very expensive (in the economic reason) and in the other hand are very contaminate power source (in the global reason). There are many ways to obtain energy resources but the change can be now because the global warming is increases and the Earth is in danger.

ResponderEliminari´m desagree with Juan Pablo because the future can change quickly. The renawable energy are important nowadays because the fossil fuels contaminated a lot. in the one hand the fossils fuels are contaminate energy resource (in the global reason) and its very expensive ( in the economic reason). There are many ways to obtain energy resources like the eolic or the hydroelectric energy. The Earth is in a contaminate phase, by the fossils fuels. The fossils fuels are a finite source of energy, so these are one of the main ideas to change to renawable resources and stop to contaminate our planet that is in danger.
ResponderEliminarI think the text is renewable and non-renewable energies. I think today is much more non-renewable energy use, and that these energies are strong that renewable ma, but these energies have two drawbacks: the contaminacion and that the cost is very expensive. I think that renewable energies are the future, because, do not pollute, have a lower cost and these energies never finished, and non-renewable energies come a time that will be abolished and may not be used.
ResponderEliminarI'm agree with the text. The renewables energies don't contaminate but all the industries do oil factories because you can earn more money with that type of factory because this type of energy are more expensive.
ResponderEliminarI think that in the future the oil will disapeared and the contaminate of the planet will increases. If among all decide to use only the renewables energies the planet will be more clean and perfect to life

What do you mean when you says " in the future the oil will disapeared and the contaminate of the planet will increases" I don´t find the point in this statement.
EliminarI think that we must be thinking the form to produce non-contaminable energy, because the fossil fuels have a limit and produce pollution , if we found the way to exploit the solar energy , wind , and the other renovable energies. Now we can use this fossil fuels but in a shrot future this is going to end. I find in internet that USA have aproximated 53 years of oil .
ResponderEliminarI think the text is renewable and non-renewable energies. I think they use more non-renewable energies because they are more powerful, but these energies have two drawbacks: one is pollution and the other is the cost to get them. Instead the renewable energies even without much power, pollute more and costs less. I believe that renewable energies are the future as they are energies that never end and non-renewable energies come a time that end.

without much power? what do you mean? The power is the same. We get electric power from the wind some windy days in Spain, so the power is the same.

ResponderEliminarI agree as read in the text. Today there are several types of energy, such as renewable, but this is not enough and we need fossil fuels. As I said there are several types of energies, such as heat, which can produce more energy than wind; pun. In Spain we have many places that use renewable energy, but the cost is quite high.Another factor to consider is fossil fuels, polluting enough, because damage to plants and in fact we-ness itself. We must change this mindset and way of thinking, that is looking to the future too.

ResponderEliminarIn part I'm agree with you Adrián Gómez, but think a moment with this datum in your hand, in my opinion fossil fuels are not so expensive in all the world we have many oil well and coal mine in the world; and the eolic energy is too much expensive, for exmple, one eolic mill cost 6.000 euros at year with one eolic mill you produce 6 megawatt at year, how many mill will need Spain? , with 6.000 euros we can buy 141 barrel of oil, this energy for 239.700 kilowatts per hour. What's better?
ResponderEliminarSo, do you mean that the point is to use fossil energies because they are much cheaper than the other ones? What is the best to prevent global warming?
EliminarThe text talks about renewable and non-renewable energies. The non-renewable energy sources such as oil, are being depleted and are bad for the environment. In contrast, renewable energy such as solar energy, are endless and do not harm the environment. The text tries to explain that probably, renewable energy will be the future.
ResponderEliminarIn my opinion, I think that now the renewable energies are expensive due to most of them are still under development, for example the construction of solar panels requires a lot of land and materials used for photovoltaic cells are made with expensive materials; if they find more economical materials would reduce a lot the price, but research is always expensive. However it is a good bet for the future!

I agree with Juan Pablo López López, because this text speaks of the different energies use in the world. They are renewable and non-renewable energy. Also it speaks of the various utilities . I think the non-renewable energy sources are a good energy because they produce a lot of energy and inexpensive , but they are pollute much and they ends . Renewable energy sources are good because they do not pollute and they do not end , but they are more expensive and they produce less energy and they aren't self-sufficient because they need another to produce the energy of a house.

The text speaks about the renewable energy and the not renewable energy. Fodder that the text trying this one to make clear that the renewable energy is natural, and not contaminate. We can use the renewable energy for many things as: for the production of electric power, for the heating of homes, of lighting, for hot water heating...
ResponderEliminarWe can say that the heat energy produces many mas energy that the wind or hydroelectric power. But all the machine for they produce renewable energy are very expensive.Nevertheless , the fossil fuels contaminate very much.
Therefore, one of the principal ideas to change the renewable resources and to stop contaminating our planet.
Because of it the United States prefer the not renewable energy, and on the other hand we prefer the renewable energy.
